Belanna was baptized today! She looked so beautiful in her special dress. My sweet baby girl has begun her journey with God. It was a quite and small ceremony in her hospital room. Just the chaplain, myself, her daddy and a lovely nurse.
My daughter has made so much progress during her NICU stay. She has learned to breath on her own. She now can hold her own body heat and eats all her food by mouth. My daughter has gone from her birth weight of 1600 grams to 2123 grams in one months time.
As I write this it is Friday the 22nd of May. If all goes well tonight she may very well be sent home tomorrow. I am so very excited to bring my baby home. My son is so excited to see his sister for the first time and my mother is happy to finally meet her newest grandbaby.
It’s been a long journey to get here to this moment. I must admit there’s a part of me that’s nervous to take her home. She’s still so small. It’s been a comfort to have the nurses there at a moments notice if something was wrong. I can’t help but feel a strange amount of sorrow at loosing the support of the medical staff.
Of course I am well equipped as a mother. I’ve raised an infant to toddler once already. I must remember that as I walk into the life of a mother of two. I am capable. I am strong and I am enough. I want to be the best mother I can be for my children.
